Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power, Manohar Lal, attended the launch of the construction work. Katikithala Srinivas, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Chairman of DMRC, along with senior officials, was also present at the event.
The project is being developed under Phase V(A) of the Delhi Metro network and will extend the existing Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg.
The 9.9-km underground corridor will have nine stations: Shivaji Stadium, Yuge Yugeen Bharat, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhawan, India Gate, War Memorial-High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam and Indraprastha.
Once completed, Central Secretariat will become a triple interchange station which will allow passengers to switch between the Magenta, Yellow and Violet lines. The new interchange is expected to improve connectivity for people accessing the Lutyens’ Zone and surrounding administrative districts.
According to DMRC, the corridor will provide easier access to major government offices, courts, national memorials and convention centres. The project is also expected to improve overall connectivity in central Delhi and make travel more convenient for passengers.
“This project marks a significant step in strengthening connectivity to the heart of New Delhi, providing efficient access to major government offices, judicial institutions, national memorials, and convention facilities, while enhancing overall network efficiency and passenger convenience,” the DMRC wrote on X.

This section is one of the three new routes being built under Delhi Metro’s Phase-V(A) expansion plan. Together, these three corridors will cover 16.07 kilometres and cost around ₹12,000 crore. The Central Government approved the project in December 2025.
With the addition of the Magenta Line, Central Secretariat is expected to become one of Delhi’s most important metro interchange hubs. The government estimates that the corridor will help around 60,000 employees who work in these offices and nearly 2 lakh visitors who travel to the area every day.
Once this new Central Vista section is completed, the Magenta Line will become the longest line in the Delhi Metro network. Its total length will increase to 88.4 km, overtaking the Pink Line, which is currently the longest Delhi Metro route at more than 71.5 km and has 46 stations.
