Operation Sindoor Debate in Lok Sabha: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday responded sharply to Congress leader P. Chidambaram’s remarks questioning the origin of terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack, saying the government has solid proof that they came from Pakistan.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha during a special discussion in the Lok Sabha on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, Shah stated that the government has clear evidence that the attackers were Pakistani nationals.
“We have their voter ID numbers. The rifles and cartridges used were made in Pakistan,” he said, backing his claim with specific details.
Shah also informed the House that all three terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack were eliminated in a joint operation by the Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police near Srinagar on Monday under Operation Mahadev.
The BJP leader accused Chidambaram of defending Pakistan by casting doubt on the terrorists’ origin.
The Union Home Minister said, “Yesterday they (Congress) were asking us where the terrorists came from and who was responsible for it. Of course, it is our responsibility as we are in power.”
“Chidambaram ji raised the question – what is the proof that the terrorists came from Pakistan? I want to ask him what he will get by saving Pakistan. When he says this, it means they are giving a clean chit to Pakistan,” he added.
He further criticised the Congress leader further, saying, “The former Home Minister of this country is giving Pakistan a clean chit in front of the entire world.”
What Did Chidambaram Say?
Congress leader and former Union Minister P. Chidambaram sparked controversy with his remarks on the Pahalgam attack. In a video interview with The Quint, shared on Sunday, Chidambaram said the attackers “for all we know could be homegrown terrorists” and questioned, “why do you assume that they came from Pakistan?”
He had questioned, “Have they identified the terrorists, where they came from? For all we know they could be homegrown terrorists. Why do you assume that they came from Pakistan? There is no evidence of that. They are also hiding the losses.”
However, later, Chidambaram clarified that his remarks had been taken out of context.
PM Modi Praises Shah’s Speech
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated Shah’s speech in Parliament. In a post on X, he said that the Home Minister had provided key details about Operations Sindoor and Mahadev, which were instrumental in eliminating terrorists.
“In this remarkable speech in the Lok Sabha, Home Minister Amit Shah Ji gives important details about Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev, which have played a vital role in eliminating cowardly terrorists,” PM Modi wrote.
