Parliament Monsoon Session Highlights: Day 1 Of Op Sindoor Debate Concludes; Govt, Opposition Lock Horns

Parliament Monsoon Session Day 6 Highlights: The Operation Sindoor debate concluded in Lok Sabha after a fiery face-off between the government and the Opposition parties. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh began the debate in Lok Sabha, explaining how, through Operation Sindoor, the Indian armed forces hit nine terror targets in Pakistan and PoK and killed over 100 terrorists. He also said that the Operation was stopped because India’s objective was achieved and not under pressure.

“We stopped action because our objectives were met. It is baseless and wrong that the Operation Sindoor was stopped under any pressure,” Singh said as his statement was followed by uproar from the Opposition. Parties in the INDIA bloc came down heavily on the central government over alleged security lapses and US President Donald Trump’s claim of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.

The Opposition ruckus earlier on Monday resulted in three consecutive adjournments, pushing the start time of the discussion.

The Operation Sindoor debate had taken centre stage on Monday, with the Opposition demanding answers from the government over India’s May 7 to 10 operation against Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack. The Opposition also looks to corner the government over the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were killed in cold blood.

The discussion in the Rajya Sabha will take place on Tuesday, July 29. Both Houses will hold a 32-hour debate in all on the topic.
