The Prehistoric Life Gallery was inaugurated on August 26 and has since become a unique attraction in the capital. Located on Bhairon Marg near Bharat Mandapam, the gallery takes visitors millions of years back in time, offering a glimpse into the world that existed when dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures roamed the Earth.
35 prehistoric species on display
The gallery features around 35 species from different geological eras, ranging from giant scorpions and early birds to massive dinosaurs and the Neanderthal man, reported NDTV. Informative panels explain the evolution of prehistoric life and provide visitors with insights into the Earth’s history.
Several life-sized and scaled animated robotic models of dinosaurs and other extinct creatures have been placed across the gallery. The exhibits are designed around the natural habitats in which these creatures are believed to have lived, giving visitors a better understanding of prehistoric ecosystems.
Volcano models have also been installed at different points inside the gallery to recreate the atmosphere of the prehistoric world. With moving dinosaur models, dramatic lighting, realistic sounds and interactive displays, the gallery offers an experience particularly engaging for children and families.
Gallery renovated after nearly a year
The Prehistoric Life Gallery had previously existed at the National Science Centre, but the older exhibits had become outdated and lacked the interactive elements needed to attract visitors.
The gallery was subsequently closed for renovation for nearly a year before reopening in its revamped form, according to a News18 report. The new version features more lifelike models, improved sound and lighting effects and a more interactive presentation.
One ticket gives access to 10 galleries
Visitors do not need to purchase a separate ticket for the Prehistoric Life Gallery. The attraction is included in the entry ticket for the National Science Centre.
The entry ticket costs ₹ 100 per person and provides access to 10 galleries, including the Prehistoric Life Gallery. Shows organised at the centre require separate tickets. Children under the age of five can visit the National Science Centre without an entry fee.
National Science Centre timings
The National Science Centre is open from 9:30 am to 6 pm. Ticket sales are available until 5 pm, so visitors planning to explore the Prehistoric Life Gallery should reach the centre before the ticket counter closes. The centre remains closed every Monday.
Where is Delhi’s Dinosaur Gallery?
The Prehistoric Life Gallery is located inside the National Science Centre on Bhairon Marg, near Bharat Mandapam in central Delhi.
For visitors travelling by Metro, Supreme Court Metro Station on the Blue Line is among the nearest stations. Indraprastha Metro Station is another option, with autos available for the remaining distance.
Visitors travelling by car can also use the parking facility at the National Science Centre. Parking costs ₹100 for four-wheelers and ₹40 for two-wheelers.
