This would also provide travellers with a cleaner, safer and more convenient transport option while supporting the state’s green mobility goals.
Besides the electric buses, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the new Noida bus depot, which will serve as a key hub for the expansion of the electric bus network.
At the launch event, CM Yogi Adityanath said, “EV buses will start by June 15, and we have a target of 500 EV buses as per the demand for post-flight services at Jewar Noida international airport.”
The Chief Minister added that two electric bus manufacturing facilities operated by Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland have been set up in Uttar Pradesh. He also announced that three hydrogen-powered buses will be provided by the Yamuna Authority.
As per officials, a total of 100 electric buses, including 10 double-decker buses, are ready for operation from the Sector 90 bus depot. The buses are equipped to support intercity travel and are expected to connect key residential, commercial and transport hubs across Noida and Greater Noida.
Many of these routes will lead to the Jewar airport, while other buses will connect key locations such as Botanical Garden, Sector-62, Greater Noida West, Surajpur, and Pari Chowk. In addition to that, connectivity will be provided to Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, Ghaziabad, and ISBT.
Long-distance routes have also been designated to connect rural and urban areas within the Yamuna Authority region.
A modern charging infrastructure has been installed at the depot to support the fleet. The high-speed chargers capable of charging buses to full in about two hours will further ensure smooth operations.
The Noida Authority and Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will work together to operate the service. According to officials, the buses will prove most helpful to the people of Greater Noida West, where the availability of public transport was limited.
