Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane on Tuesday shared a video on social media platform X that showed a group of men going door to door in a locality and urging residents to vote against the BJP. Rane referred to the incident as “vote jihad” and captioned the video: “If this is not ‘vote jihad’ then what is it?”

The group also asked the resident to vote against a candidate whom they described as “the person who stopped azan,” the video showed.

In the video, the group can be heard saying, “Wake up, vote against the person who stopped azan… Wake up, vote for Number 4. Vote against BJP. It is time to vote against BJP. When will you wake up, if not now.”

However, it is not clear where the video was recorded.

The video comes just days ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, which are scheduled to be held on January 15.

The BMC has announced that it is fully prepared to conduct the elections. According to an official statement, over 1 crore voters are expected to participate in the civic polls. Around 1,700 candidates are contesting the elections, with women candidates forming a majority.

To ensure smooth polling, nearly 13,000 presiding and polling officers have been deployed across various polling stations, along with an equal number of assistant presiding officers. The civic body has also engaged about 13,000 security personnel, including support staff, to maintain law and order during voting and on the counting day.
