Telangana Chief Minister K. Revanth Reddy took aim at the previous BRS regime, accusing it of causing “greater injustice” to the state in irrigation projects than during undivided Andhra Pradesh.

CM Reddy said that it would not be wrong even if his predecessor, K. Chandrashekhar Rao, and his nephew T. Harish Rao were “hanged” for the injustice caused in irrigation projects.

The BRS retaliated, alleging that the Chief Minister wished for the death of its two leaders.

CM Revanth Reddy made the remarks during a PowerPoint presentation by Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy to ruling Congress leaders on river water issues. Invoking a quote by Telangana poet Kaloji Narayana Rao, he said, “We will kick out outsiders who exploit us, and we will bury alive those from our own region if they exploit us”, as quoted by news agency PTI.

Telangana was established as it had “suffered injustice” in undivided Andhra Pradesh, he said. He went on to allege that the state suffered even “greater injustice” in the utilisation of Krishna and Godavari river waters during the previous BRS regime.

CM Reddy described KCR and Harish Rao – who served as irrigation minister during the BRS government – as a “bigger evil” for Telangana if they echoed the stance of former undivided Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who protested the formation of the state.

“What Kaloji Narayana Rao said exactly applies to the Chief Minister KCR and Irrigation Minister Harish Rao. I am saying this with authority—it is not wrong even if they are hanged for the injustice in river water issues,” Reddy alleged, as reported by the outlet.

Invokes Kasab to target KCR

CM Revanth Reddy outlined that India is a country where even the 26/11 terrorist Kasab was sentenced to death only after a long and fair trial.

If Kasab availed so many facilities, imagine how many KCR would have, he said, adding, “Moreover, they earned money and can hire any lawyer”.

The Chief Minister also accused his predecessor of “delaying irrigation projects” and “disseminating misinformation” to shield his party’s existence.

“In order to save his party, KCR is spreading lies about water issues. He has falsely claimed that I am tacitly cooperating with the Andhra Pradesh government. Whatever KCR and Harish Rao say is 24-karat false,” he said.

Earlier, Reddy had invited KCR to attend the ongoing Assembly session for a debate on river water issues and pending irrigation projects. He assured the BRS chief that the state government would be receptive to his suggestions on the issue.

The invitation was largely perceived as a veiled attack on the former CM for not attending the assembly session since 2023, when the BRS lost power.

BRS responds to Reddy’s comments

Former BRS MLA S Niranjan Reddy hit back at Reddy, saying the Chief Minister was inviting KCR to the Assembly on one hand and “wishing for the death of KCR and Harish Rao” on the other.

He further accused the Congress party of hurting Telangana’s sentiments.
