Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday delivered a sharp response to Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi’s claim that individuals aligned with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were being placed in key positions, saying that even the country’s Prime Minister and Home Minister adhere to the same ideology.
Addressing the Lok Sabha, Shah said, “Rahul Gandhi says that people who share the ideology of RSS are appointed to important positions. What’s the problem with that? There is no law banning RSS members from important positions. Even the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) and the Home Minister adhere to the same ideology. People have elected us and sent us here. We are not here by your grace.”
He also launched a tirade of accusations against former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, alleging that she colluded with communists to maintain power and interfered in the Presidential elections.
“What is the ideology of RSS? To die for the country is the reflection of the RSS ideology. To take the country to the highest levels of prosperity is the RSS ideology. It is to uphold the country’s traditions. We are not afraid of them (opposition). I was 10 years old when I raised slogans against Indira Gandhi,” he added.
Targeting the Congress, he said they lost elections because they opposed surgical strikes, abrogation of Article 370, Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir, removal of illegal immigrants, abolition of triple talaq and more. He also praised PM Narendra Modi’s work ethic and dedication towards the development of the country.
“I have known Narendra Modi since 2001. I can say there hasn’t been a single day of rest for him, not a single vacation. He has been continuously working for the people. I have never seen him take leave. Many times, when I try to follow his example, my blood pressure rises. Now, there was a full discussion on election reforms. Today, I even conducted an inspection myself,” he added.
On the topic of SIR, Shah said the governments of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu will meet a similar fate as seen in Bihar due to their opposition to the voter list revision. He also slammed the opposition leaders for walking out while he was raising the issue of illegal infiltration, saying, “Our policy is ‘detect, delete and deport’. Their policy is ‘normalise infiltration, grant them recognition, include them in vote list during election and formalise this.”
