Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra defended her presence at BJP MP and industrialist Naveen Jindal’s daughter Yashaswini Jindal’s wedding, after videos of her dancing alongside political opponents went viral.
Responding to social media chatter, Moitra wrote on X, “He’s an old friend. It was his daughter’s wedding. This was a private event with friends and family. Politics doesn’t mean cutting off all ties with humans. And who says I won’t raise my voice if something wrong happens?”
The wedding became an unexpected talking point after clips surfaced showing Moitra, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut and NCP (SCP) MP Supriya Sule dancing together on stage to the Bollywood hit “Deewangi Deewangi” from Om Shanti Om. Jindal himself joined in the choreography, adding to the lively atmosphere. The videos quickly went viral, with netizens calling it an “unexpected collaboration” and expressing surprise at the unusual mix of performers.

Behind-the-scenes images shared earlier by Ranaut showed the MPs rehearsing together for the sangeet. “Some filmy moments with fellow parliamentarians ha ha. Rehearsing for [Naveen Jindal] ji’s daughter’s wedding sangeet,” she captioned her post. The star-studded celebration at the Jindal family home in Delhi brought together several well-known political and business figures. One of the evening’s highlights was a rare performance by the four Jindal brothers—Ratan, Prithviraj, Sajjan and Naveen—dancing to Daler Mehndi’s 1990s hit “Na Na Na Re.”
Moitra’s clarification comes amid heated political rivalries, but the TMC MP emphasised that personal relationships and social occasions do not override her political stance or willingness to speak out.
