The Winter Session Of Parliament Begins Today | SIR Showdown | Delhi Air Pollution | News18

WINTER SESSION OF PARLIAMENT TO BEGIN FROM TODAYThe Winter Session of Parliament begins today amid heightened tensions, with the Trinamool Congress, DMK and Samajwadi Party set to challenge the Election Commission’s SIR voter-list revision inside the House. Despite the short session ending on December 19, the government aims to pass 10 key bills as senior ministers and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju work to ensure smooth proceedings. A major highlight will be the debate marking 150 years of Vande Mataram, which Congress has criticised as a diversion from electoral-roll issues, though the TMC has agreed to participate. The Centre has refused any discussion on SIR, calling it a routine EC exercise backed by the Supreme Court, while Opposition parties in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh allege misuse and intend to raise it strongly. With additional Opposition demands for debates on climate change, national security and pollution, the session is poised for confrontation and likely disruptions.INDIA bloc Floor Leaders meeting to be held at Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge’s office in Parliament at 10 am.
