Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat is set to engage with at least 1,200 intellectuals from West Bengal during a visit to Kolkata on December 21 as part of the organisation’s nationwide centenary outreach programme, sources told News18.
Bhagwat has previously visited Kolkata for organisational and public functions, and this upcoming programme is part of the larger 100-year commemorative activities by the RSS.
According to sources within the organisation, a list of about 1,200 invitees has been compiled featuring teachers, educationists, film directors, writers, and members of the cultural fraternity. The event is part of the centenary ‘Vyakhanmala’, a lecture series that has been held in Bengaluru and Delhi.
The sources said the initiative aims to highlight the vision of a “samridh Bharat” and India’s aspiration to become a “vishwaguru”. Kolkata is the third city chosen for the series, with Mumbai likely to host the next edition.
They said at least 1,200 prominent figures in Bengal have been asked to clear December 21 on their calendar for the event. They are expected to take part in sessions throughout the day and will also have the chance to directly interact with Bhagwat.
Insiders in the RSS suggested that the discussions may cover a wide range of societal themes, including demographic changes in Bengal, in line with the organisation’s focus on social and community-related issues. Political commentators have noted the timing of the significant visit, which coincides with the ongoing pan-India special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and heightened public discourse on alleged infiltration and demographic shifts in the state.
The sources further said the presence of the RSS chief ahead of the election season is seen as strategically important, with the organisation’s cadre closely monitoring developments related to the December event.
