‘CIA, Mossad Plotted Congress Defeat In 2014’: Congress Leader Makes Bizarre Claim, BJP Reacts | Politics News

Congress leader Kumar Ketkar on Wednesday claimed that the CIA and Mossad, the intelligence agencies of the United States and Israel, had plotted the defeat of the Congress in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking at an event organised by the Congress on Constitution Day, the former Rajya Sabha MP recalled the party’s earlier electoral trajectory. “The party won 145 seats in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls and 206 in the general election five years later. Had this trend continued, the Congress could have won 250 seats and retained power convincingly. However, in 2014, the number of seats bagged by the party fell to 44,” he said.

“It was then that the game started. It was decided that under no circumstances, the seat tally of the Congress should increase from 206 in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls,” Ketkar claimed. According to him, certain foreign agencies acted on the belief that “till the time we do not bring down the Congress from 206, we would not be able to play games here (in India).”

“One of the organisations was the CIA and another was the Mossad of Israel. Both had decided that they had to do something in India. If a stable Congress government or a Congress-led alliance government came back to power again, they would not have been able to interfere in India and implement their policies,” he alleged. Ketkar added that the agencies preferred “a favourable government” in New Delhi, insisting “there should be a majority government but not of the Congress.”

He further claimed that “The Mossad prepared detailed data on states and constituencies. The CIA and the Mossad have detailed data on states and constituencies.” Ketkar argued that although there was some disenchantment against then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2014, it was not enough to explain the Congress’s steep fall from 206 seats to 44. “This was not the mandate of the people,” he asserted.

Ketkar concluded by saying that the British had historically desired that India, too, should experience Balkanisation.

BJP Reacts

BJP MP Sambit Patra dismissed Ketkar’s remark and said Mossad or the CIA does not help the BJP win elections.

“Were they asleep before the 2014 polls, or even before that? They now claim that foreign agencies were working in the country, and that is why Congress lost in 2014. Mossad or the CIA does not help the BJP win elections. It is the people of this country who make us win with their votes. The Congress party is working on the ISI’s agenda,” Patra said.
