Veteran politician KA Sengottaiyan is likely to join Vijay’s political party TVK on November 27, top TVK sources have told CNN-News 18.
The MLA from Gobichettipalayam is likely to resign as a legislator on Wednesday.
Neither confirming nor denying reports of his joining the TVK, Sengottaiyan told CNN-News18: “I’m deeply anguished because the only reward I received was that I can no longer be a member of the AIADMK. I have no further comments to make.”
Sengottaiyan, a nine-time MLA, is a strongman from Western Tamil Nadu.
He was recently sacked from the AIADMK for joining hands with ousted leaders, including VK Sasikala, O Panneerselvam and TTV Dhinakaran on October 30 this year in Madurai.
Sengottaiyan had recently called for a “united AIADMK” and urged Edappadi K Palaniswami to re-induct the ousted leaders in a move to defeat the DMK. Palaniswami, in response, removed him from party positions.
So far, the BJP has maintained that it will not “interfere” in the internal matters of the AIADMK, but several leaders of the saffron party are of the opinion that the AIADMK should remain united and this alone will help the NDA do better in the 2026 state assembly polls.
Leaders, including Panneerselvam and TTV Dhinakaran, are mulling options too. Sources close to OPS say he may start his own outfit and explore an alliance with the TVK.
TTV Dhinakaran, who has said the 2026 elections are between the DMK and the TVK, is also reportedly in talks with TVK. Dhinakaran has said he will take a decision by December.
