BJP’s Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha are likely to be retained as deputy chief ministers of Bihar after the NDA got a landslide victory in the recently concluded assembly elections.

Choudhary was elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party and Vijay Sinha as his deputy leader.

Choudhary thanked the BJP leadership for reposing faith in him. “I thank the party leadership and all MLAs who have again given me a chance to lead the party. The BJP has expressed its faith in the BJP and the party will try to meet their expectations,” he said.

The NDA returned to power, winning over 200 seats in the Bihar elections. The Mahagathbandhan, which made huge gains in the 2020 polls, was decimated to less than 40 seats.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new government will take place in historic Gandhi Maidan on November 20. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several top NDA leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, are expected to attend the event. Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states, including Chandrababu Naidu from Andhra Pradesh, Conrad Sangma from Meghalaya, and Nephiu Rio from Nagaland, are likely to be present there.

The BJP may induct some fresh faces in the cabinet while Nitish Kumar’s party is set to repeat its current ministers, news agency PTI reported, citing sources.

NDA allies Union minister Chirag Paswan’s LJP (RV), Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM-S, and Upendra Kushwaha’s RLM will also be part of the new cabinet.

“The LJP (RV) is likely to get three berths in the new state cabinet while the HAM-S and RLM one berth each. A maximum of 16 ministers from the BJP and 14 ministers and Nitish Kumar from JD(U) will take oath on November 20,” sources said.

As talks are being held within the NDA camp to finalise the allocation of cabinet berths, the alliance is yet to come to a consensus over the post of Assembly Speaker as both the BJP and the JD(U) are staking their claim.

In the outgoing Assembly, BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav served as Speaker, while JD(U)’s Narendra Narayan Yadav held the position of Deputy Speaker.
