Amid growing turmoil within the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) following Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter, Rohini Acharya’s announcement that she is quitting politics and distancing herself from the family, former Bihar Chief Minister and Rabri Devi’s brother, Sadhu Yadav, has weighed in with a series of sharp remarks calling for introspection within the party.
Speaking to reporters in Patna, Sadhu Yadav said the situation demanded “thoughtful reflection and deliberation”, without directly naming individuals. His comments come at a time when the RJD is grappling with internal dissatisfaction and a disappointing performance in the state elections.
Taking a veiled dig at some party leaders, he said, “No one should act overconfident or self-proclaimed. Some were saying, ‘I will become the Chief Minister,’ others were saying, ‘I will become the Deputy CM.’ They made these claims on their own, but the public never said they would make them Chief Minister or Deputy Chief Minister. The people never said it; they themselves kept declaring it.”
He also voiced concern over the RJD’s declining electoral standing. “The RJD’s performance has deteriorated. This is not acceptable. It needs to be understood and reflected upon. There is a need to think carefully and make improvements,” he said.
Commenting on the broader state of politics in Bihar after the Assembly results, Yadav added, “This is a matter for strengthening democracy. Somewhere along the line, democracy appears weak and not strong enough.”
