Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Priyanka Bharti defended party MLC Ajay Singh against allegations of consuming alcohol made by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district on Thursday.
Bharti claimed that Sinha had accused Singh of consuming alcohol, but a “LIVE breath analyzer test” conducted by the police found no trace of alcohol.
“Deputy CM Vijay Sinha has accused our MLC Ajay Singh Ji of drinking alcohol. The police conducted a LIVE breath analyzer test in which no alcohol was found,” Bharti wrote in her post.
Taking a sharp dig at the opposition, she added, “Now, will the people of the foul-mouthed area surrender themselves for arrest over giving sister insults and threats of running a bulldozer? Because the commission won’t do it on its own! The end of thuggery will come!”
This comes after Vijay Sinha engaged in a heated argument with RJD MLC Ajay Singh. A video of the confrontation was surfaced online. In the video, Vijay Sinha can be heard accusing Ajay Singh of creating disturbances after consuming alcohol, while the RJD leader alleged that the BJP leader obstructed his vehicle.
According to reports, the confrontation between the two leaders took place in Nadiyawan under the Lakhisarai Assembly constituency. Police arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control.
Attack On Sinha’s Convoy
Earlier in the day, Sinha’s convoy came under attack in Lakhisarai on polling day, as unidentified men hurled stones, slippers, and cow dung, and chanted “Murdabad” slogans to block his passage. Sinha alleged that he was attacked by the RJD goons during polling in his constituency.
While speaking to CNN-News18, Sinha claimed that a group of nearly 100 people surrounded him when he went to complain to local authorities about a polling agent not being allowed to sit at a booth.
“The polling agent was not allowed to sit. I complained to the SP about it. Soon after, I was surrounded. Slippers, stones and even cow dung were thrown at me,” Sinha told CNN-News18.
Accusing the Tejashwi Yadav-led RJD of orchestrating the attack, the Deputy Chief Minister alleged that the party’s supporters were resorting to violence out of fear of losing the ongoing elections. “These are RJD’s goons. Look at their hooliganism, even without being in power. This reflects their mindset — they are indulging in goondaism because they are afraid of defeat,” he said.
The incident occurred amid the first phase of polling in Bihar. Additional police forces were deployed to the area following the confrontation.
Poll Body Took Cognisance
The poll body took cognisance of the incident, with Bihar Additional Chief Electoral Officer Amit Kumar Pandey saying, “”We have taken cognisance of the incident. The CEO Office has taken cognisance. A detailed report will be submitted regarding the issues that arose with the convoy, and the report of whatever action is being taken will also be submitted,” as reported by news agency PTI.
