Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh on Monday campaigned for JD(U) candidate from Mokama, Anant Singh, who is currently lodged in Beur Jail following his arrest in connection with the murder case of Jan Suraaj supporter Dular Chand Yadav.

The political atmosphere in Mokama has been tense since the killing of Yadav, which led to violent clashes between rival factions. Anant Singh, the JD(U) candidate, also known as “Chhote Sarkaar” in the region, was arrested on Saturday night and sent to 14 days’ judicial custody.

While campaigning in the Mokama constituency, the Union Minister alleged a conspiracy behind the arrest and said Anant Singh would win by a huge margin in the upcoming polls. Mokama is part of the Munger constituency that he represents in the Lok Sabha.

“This incident in Anant’s entire case did not happen on its own. Many videos surfaced. Watching them reveals that this was a complete conspiracy. The police are investigating,” Lalan Singh said as quoted by Bhaskar.

The Union Minister also lauded the arrested leader for his cooperation with the police and said the NDA nominee has respected the law. He also expressed hope that the police will conduct the investigation without any bias.

“After looking at what had happened, it seems that it was a conspiracy. The police will unravel everything,” the senior JDU leader said. “I feel the police will conduct its investigation without any bias and the truth will soon be out.”

Anant Singh is up against RJD’s Veena Devi, the wife of rival ‘bahubali’ Suraj Bhan. Asked if Anant Singh’s arrest would benefit Suraj Bhan, Lalan Singh said, “You travel through Mokama and see for yourself. Take it from me in writing, Anant Singh will win this election with a bigger margin than all his earlier wins.”

Anant Singh’s Arrest And Judicial Custody

Anant Singh was sent to 14-day judicial custody on Sunday, hours after he was arrested in connection with the murder of a Jan Suraaj Party campaigner in Bihar’s Mokama.

Dular Chand Yadav, a campaigner for Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi, was shot during clashes between rival political groups. Anant Singh was apprehended after a targeted operation in Barh and Mokama areas of rural Patna, which involved around 150 Central Armed Police Force personnel. Following the arrests, all three accused were brought to Patna for questioning.

An FIR filed by Dular Chand’s grandson directly named Anant Singh, his nephews, and others as the accused. After his arrest, Anant Singh was produced before a court on Sunday, after which he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days. He has been sent to Patna’s Beur Central Jail.

In the wake of the incident, the Election Commission of India removed the Barh Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) to ensure impartiality and maintain law and order ahead of the polls.

The 243-member Bihar assembly will go to polls in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with results set to be announced on November 14.
