Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Ajay Alok, at News18 India’s ‘Sabse Bada Dangal Bihar’, launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Chhath Puja celebrations.

At the session moderated by News18’s Amish Devgan, Alok said, “This man who claims votes are stolen, his name is Rahul Gandhi. This man’s brain has been stolen…What this man said is, if Narendra Modi is asked to dance, he will dance. Yes, if the public asks him to, Narendra Modi will dance. He has been dancing for the last 22 years. In the country and Gujarat, he has shown it by taking it forward. He is not sitting at home or in Italy like them.”

Alok told Congress spokesperson Abhay Dubey, who was sitting on the stage, that Gandhi had insulted Chhath Puja and he should apologise. Alok said that Rahul Gandhi claims that wherever PM Modi went, there was no Yamuna. He claims the PM went into his swimming pool. “I want to ask, don’t people celebrate Chhath Puja in ponds? Don’t they celebrate Chhath Puja at home? Don’t they celebrate Chhath Puja in small buckets? Puja is performed with emotion and devotion,” he said.

The BJP spokesperson said in a scathing tone that “someone who lacks knowledge of Indian culture would insult Chhath Puja. A person who is not a Hindu has no right to speak ill of Hindus”.

Waris Pathan, AIMIM, responded saying everybody should be allowed to celebrate their festivals. When asked why Waqf was made an issue in Bihar polls, Pathan said that when the bill came Congress wasn’t raising their voice. Dubey responded saying that AIMIM’s chief Owaisi was chanting Modi’s name.

What Rahul Gandhi said

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday kickstarted Mahagathbandhan’s Bihar poll campaign from Muzaffarpur in the presence of RJD leader and coalition’s CM face Tejashwi Yadav.

Gandhi said PM Modi has nothing to do with Chhath Puja and the Yamuna River. “There’s no Yamuna there; there’s a pond there. Narendra Modi went to bathe in his swimming pool. He has nothing to do with the Yamuna. He has nothing to do with Chhath Puja. He just wants your vote. If you tell Narendra Modi to dance. He will dance… they are engaged in stealing your votes. Because they want to end this election disease. I am telling you, they stole elections in Maharashtra, they stole elections in Haryana, and they will try their best in Bihar,” Gandhi said.

On Bihar and Jan Nayak

When asked about the 20-year rule in Bihar, BJP’s Alok said they have ensured development, given homes, brought electricity. “Now Bihar is ready to take the next leap,” he said.

When asked how Congress was trying to use the term ‘Jan Nayak’ used for Karpoori Thakur for leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, Dubey said, “A leader who undertook a padyatra for people, makes people aware of injustices, fights for the poor is worthy of the term ‘Jan Nayak’…Karpoori Thakur’s government was brought down by the RSS-BJP,” he said.

Alok said Gandhi is the “Jan Nayak of Pakistan”. “While BJP has always been against Muslims, even Congress has not done justice to them…They haven’t picked a Muslim deputy CM,” said Pathan.
