The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has responded to the viral video allegedly showing Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, asserting that the clip is fake. AAP leader Baltej Singh Pannu, addressing the controversy surrounding the video currently being investigated by the Punjab Police as a “deepfake”, said, “Mohali court has ordered the removal of all videos, but BJP handlers are sharing it, which shows that they are linked to it.”

He also slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for sharing the videos, saying that it only shows they are linked to it.

“The Mohali court’s decision is clear—the video is fake, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to malign the image of the Chief Minister. The court has ordered its immediate removal and even directed Google to ensure it does not appear in searches,” claimed Pannu.

He said that the person behind the circulation of the fake video is based in Canada and already faces several fraud accusations. “This is the same man who had earlier attempted a similar ploy against a Union Minister. Everyone knows how that ended—his falsehoods were exposed before the public,” he said.

Pannu also accused social media handles linked to the BJP of deliberately amplifying the fake clip as part of a planned smear campaign. He criticised BJP’s Punjab Working President Ashwani Sharma for questioning Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s silence on the issue.

“The court’s decision came only yesterday. Since the court itself has confirmed the video is fake and ordered its removal, Mr Sharma should perhaps ask questions of those who made and circulated it, rather than the person who was targeted,” Pannu remarked.

BJP’s Reaction

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over a viral video allegedly featuring the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. As AAP dismissed the clip as fake, BJP spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam questioned the party’s silence on the controversy and demanded clarity from its leadership.

“A very controversial video of the Chief Minister of Punjab is circulating. The shameful part is that the entire AAP is maintaining complete silence on it. This is a party that used to speak about ethics, morality, and the need for purity in politics. Yet today, it is not just an individual under scrutiny, it is the Chief Minister, and the party is hesitant even to issue a clarification,” he said.

What’s The Case?

A purported video of Punjab CM Bhagwat Mann went viral online, after which, the Punjab Police’s cybercrime branch of the Punjab Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a Canada-based individual, Jagman Samra (sometimes also spelt “Jagmandeep Singh Samra”), for uploading the clip.

The AAP has called the video fake, with Bhagwat Mann himself calling it “fake”.

The local court in Mohali has reportedly ordered major platforms (like Google and Facebook) to remove the video and make it non-searchable
