Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh on Saturday clarified that he has not joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to contest the Bihar Assembly elections, and he has no intention of running in the polls.

“I, Pawan Singh, want to tell my Bhojpuri community that I have not joined any party to contest the Bihar Assembly elections, nor do I intend to contest them. I am a true soldier of the party and will remain so,” Singh wrote on X, in Hindi.

Singh emphasised his loyalty to the party, describing himself as a “true soldier” who will continue to support it.

Pawan Singh, often hailed as the ‘Power Star’ with a massive youth following, was expelled in May 2024 for contesting as an independent against the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) candidate in the Karakat Lok Sabha seat.

His independent run was directly responsible for splitting the alliance’s vote, leading to the defeat of Kushwaha and the victory of the opposition’s CPI-ML candidate.

Singh’s Marital Dispute

These days, the Bhojpuri singer is in the limelight because of the ongoing marital dispute between him and his wife Jyoti Singh. On October 8, both held separate press conferences — each sharing their side of the story as shocking allegations and counter-statements took centre stage.

Speaking to the media in Mumbai, Jyoti Singh made disturbing claims about her marriage, alleging that she was given abortion pills multiple times and suffered emotional and physical abuse.

In response, Pawan Singh reacted to the media later that evening, dismissing Jyoti’s claims as one-sided and exaggerated. He said, “Jyoti Singh posted on Instagram that she was coming to Lucknow to meet me. I was aware of her intentions and had informed the administration. We met at the flat with my brothers, Hrithik and Dhananjay, while Jyoti was accompanied by her brother and elder sister, Juhi. How I behaved with her — only I, she, and God know that.”

Wife Meets Prashant Kishor

Singh’s wife, Jyoti Singh, on Friday met Jan Suraaj chief Prashant Kishor ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.

She is the second wife of Pawan Singh and had accused him of infidelity. She met the poll strategist-turned-politician at the Sheikhpura House in Patna.

The actor-politician earlier alleged that his wife is pressuring him to get her an election ticket.

Jyoti Singh, however, stated that she has prepared thoroughly and will contest the elections if she chooses, emphasising that her decision is entirely independent of Pawan Singh’s political plans.

“I had helped him extensively last time, wearing out my slippers in the area… If I want to contest, I will. I have put in a lot of work, and people know it,” she told NDTV on Tuesday.

Why Pawan Singh Is Important?

The Bhojpuri star comes from the Shahabad region, which is a historically significant political area in Bihar, often referred to as the Bhojpur region, which includes Bhojpur, Arrah, Rohtas, Sasaram, Kaimur Bhabua, and Buxar.

In the 2020 Assembly polls, the BJP performed very poorly, where, of the 22 seats, the NDA managed to win only eight. The remaining 14 seats were won by the opposition Mahagathbandhan, making this region a major weak spot for the ruling alliance.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA also lost four out of five seats in the region—Arrah, Karakat, Aurangabad, and Sasaram—following Singh’s suspension and the visible conflict between the Rajput and Kushwaha communities.

The Bhojpuri star’s influence is undeniable. His capacity to rally a large and dedicated voter base, particularly in the Bhojpuri-speaking belt, is a significant advantage. Additionally, his stature as a prominent leader from the influential Rajput community provides the BJP with a crucial means to consolidate support from this social group across the Bhojpur region, including key constituencies.
