Bihar Polls 2025: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Sunday finalised the seat-sharing arrangement within its constituents for the upcoming Bihar Legislative Assembly elections.

As per the deal for the 243-member assembly, the BJP and the JD(U) will contest on 101 seats each. Chirag Paswan’s LJP (Ramvilas) got a big slice, with a share of 29 seats. Upendra Kushwaha’s RLM and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM got a share of six seats each.

For the first time in Bihar’s electoral history, the BJP and JD(U) will contest an equal number of seats—101 each—in the upcoming 2025 Assembly elections. This marks a major shift in the state’s political equation, as Nitish Kumar’s party has traditionally contested a larger share whenever the two parties have been in alliance.

The formula was announced by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan after days of hectic parlays in Patna and the national capital. Yesterday, BJP’s election in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan, Bihar in-charge Vinod Tawde, and other senior leaders held both separate and joint meetings in Patna with various NDA allies.

The BJP held discussions with the Rashtriya Lok Morcha, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and Hindustani Awam Morcha. Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Nityanand Rai met Chirag Paswan in New Delhi.

LJP Gets Big Slice

Union Minister Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) has got a substantial share of 29 seats, instead of the 40 it had demanded.

Both sides held meetings throughout the day yesterday to resolve the mismatch in the LJP’s demand and BJP’s offer. The discussion, with Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and junior Home Minister Nityanand Rai, concluded ‘positively’ and are in the ‘final stage’, LJP chief Chirag Paswan had said.

He later told party members that the party stands firmly with the NDA and urged them to work to strengthen PM Modi’s hand to ensure the welfare of Bihar. “We stand firmly with the NDA. There is need to strengthen Prime Minister Modi’s hands for Bihar’s welfare,” Paswan had told cadres, according to sources who spoke to CNN-News18.

BJP Core Committee Meeting

Additionally, a BJP core committee is also taking place in the national capital to finalise and discuss the names of candidates for the polls. The meeting is being chaired by the party’s National President JP Nadda. Senior BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and other members are present in the meeting.

As per sources, the first list of candidates is likely to be released on October 13, and this is expected to be a joint NDA list that will include allies and not just BJP nominees.

While the ruling NDA has finalised the seat-sharing formula, the Mahagathbandhan – which includes Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, Left parties, and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) – has not been able to arrive on a consensus over it yet.

The election to the 243-member Bihar Assembly will be conducted in two phases. Polling for the first phase, covering 121 seats, will be held on the 6th of November. The remaining 122 constituencies will go to the polls in the second phase on the 11th of November. The counting of votes will be held on November 14.
