In a video that has now gone viral, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was seen garlanding a woman candidate, who is contesting on an NDA ticket in the upcoming assembly elections.
This has sparked fresh speculation about Nitish Kumar’s “mental health” with opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav once again questioning “such antics” by him.
Twisting Nitish’s rebuke to a close aide, who tried to stop him from garlanding the woman, Tejashwi used his own words against him. The chief minister told his aide, JD(U) working president Sanjay Jha: “Gajab aadmi ho, bhai (you’re a strange man).”
Tejashwi, who later shared the video on X, said: “E gajab aadmi hai bhai (you are the one who is a strange man). If he is of sound mental health, why is he reading out from a written speech and indulging in such antics?”

ई गजब आदमी है भाई!!! 😀मुख्यमंत्री जी अगर स्वस्थ है तो लिखा हुआ भाषण पढ़ ऐसी हरकतें क्यों कर रहे है? #Bihar pic.twitter.com/Xhit9l37Ib— Tejashwi Yadav (@yadavtejashwi) October 21, 2025
Nitish, who launched his poll campaign in Meenapur constituency of Muzaffarpur district on Tuesday, insisted on garlanding a female NDA candidate and rebuked a close aide who tried to stop him. He left the crowd at the rally amused when he mispronounced the local party candidate, Ajay Kushwaha’s name and added the prefix ‘Shri’ to Rama Nishad, the BJP candidate from Aurai.
During his speech, which Tejashwi said was riddled with inconsistencies, the CM said if the public promised to vote for the NDA, he would like to garland candidates as a mark of assured victory. Nishad, who had joined the BJP last week, looked uncomfortable when he approached her with a garland.
This is even more embarrassing for Nitish, considering local Hindu traditions dictate that it is improper for a woman to accept a garland around her neck from anyone other than her husband. While Jha hurriedly tried to prevent his mentor from creating a scene by catching hold of the CM’s hand, the CM was not pleased with the intervention and Jha stepped back.
