Former Tamil Nadu Congress chief KS Alagiri has stirred a controversy by stating that Bollywood actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut “must be slapped” if she visits the southern state anytime soon, criticising her for past remarks about women activists and her alleged arrogance.
The senior Congress leader defended his remarks by saying, “Kangana speaks with arrogance.”
Alagiri’s controversial comment came in response to a question about an old statement made by Ranaut, in which she alleged that women activists could be hired to participate in protests for Rs 100.
Criticising the BJP MP, the Congress leader said, “Kangana Ranaut has made such loose talk many times. Once, when she was at the Delhi airport and a woman CRPF personnel slapped her, she later said it was because she had made derogatory remarks. When she comes this side (south), you should slap her without forgetting about it.”
Ranaut had made remarks about the activists during the 2020 farmers’ protest, on X. Ranaut was accused of defaming Mohinder Kaur, a 73-year-old farmer activist, through a tweet during the height of the farmers’ protests against the now-scrapped farm laws in 2020. Ranaut had allegedly misidentified Kaur as Bilkis Bano of Shaheen Bagh fame and implied that such women could be hired to participate in protests for Rs 100.
Last year, Ranaut was hit in the face and abused by a woman CISF constable during a security check at the Chandigarh airport.
The accused constable was identified as Constable Kulwinder Kaur. The CISF personnel, who appeared to be upset with Ranaut over her stance on the farmers’ protests, was suspended and an FIR lodged against her.
