The coming-of-age drama The Summer I Turned Pretty is coming to a close after three successful seasons, leaving fans both emotional and curious about what’s next for its leading lady, Lola Tung. The 21-year-old actress, who shot to stardom playing Isabel “Belly” Conklin, has already lined up her first big film project that promises to showcase a very different side of her talent.
Lola Tung Heads to the Big Screen
Tung, who is of Chinese and Swedish descent, has officially joined the cast of Forbidden Fruits, a star-studded film that also features Lili Reinhart and Gabrielle Union. The movie blends supernatural elements with dark themes, centering on Apple, a mall store employee who secretly leads a witch cult with her coworkers Cherry and Fig. The arrival of new hire Pumpkin challenges their sisterhood, forcing them to face inner demons or meet violent ends.
For Tung, this marks a bold step away from the sunlit shores of Cousins Beach, where her character Belly navigated a love triangle with brothers Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and Conrad (Christopher Briney). Fans eager to see Tung expand her range are already buzzing about the mysterious and edgy plot of her upcoming film.
Celebrating Success Beyond the Screen
While her acting career takes off, Tung has also been making stylish appearances in New York City. In August, she attended the grand opening of Crocs’ SoHo store at 543 Broadway. As a spokesperson for the brand, she stepped out in a powder blue oversized T-shirt, functional black painter pants, and caramel-colored Classic Crafted Clogs—her new go-to footwear.
“Had the best time meeting you guys yesterday and hanging out at the @crocs new soho store,” she captioned on Instagram, sharing her excitement about connecting with fans. Her casual yet chic look, paired with her easygoing charm, reinforced her reputation as one of Hollywood’s most relatable rising stars.
Tung also recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss the highly anticipated conclusion of The Summer I Turned Pretty. Fallon pressed her on the cliffhanger ending of Season 2, when Belly chose Jeremiah over Conrad. Remaining diplomatic, Tung said she was “all for her following her heart” and playfully declared herself “Team Belly.”
Without giving too much away about the final season, she hinted at “a lot more of the emotional rollercoaster you’re used to” and revealed that viewers will see the characters in “a little bit of a more mature place” after a time jump.
Between her breakout TV role, her fashionable brand appearances, and a buzzy new film, Tung is proving she’s more than ready for life beyond Cousins Beach.
