Politicians often walk between their public personas and private lives. They strive to keep their family matters separate from governance, but some cute and spontaneous moments slip through and offer a glimpse of relatability.
One such instance happened with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ekanth Shinde, who, during a live interview on a TV news channel, was regularly interrupted by his grandson.
Shinde was engaged in a live discussion on the recently concluded Maratha quota protest, led by activist Manoj Jarange Patil, on a news channel. However, the limelight soon shifted to his grandson, who was shouting in the background.
Shinde’s grandson began calling out affectionately, “Baba, Baba!” Though visibly unsettled by the intrusion, Shinde tried to signal his grandson to step aside – first with his eyes, then with his hands. Later, he even told him, “Are, ithe kaam chaalu aahe…” (“Hey, work is going on here…”).
😄 pic.twitter.com/Lb9q83Zt9g

The surprising interruption quickly improved the mood, making the anchor, the audience, and eventually social media users smile. The moment was widely shared and called “cute.”
Shinde was speaking about Manoj Jarange’s move to call off his 5-day fast over the Maratha quota demand. Jarange had claimed victory and ended his five-day hunger strike on Tuesday after the Maharashtra government accepted most of his demands, including giving out Kunbi caste certificates.
The 43-year-old activist accepted a glass of fruit juice offered by senior BJP minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, who heads the cabinet sub-committee on Maratha reservation, at south Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, marking the end of his fast.
Accepting the government resolution from the Maratha quota cabinet sub-committee, Jarange asked his supporters to head home from the protest site at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan.
“We have won,” Jarange told his supporters, making the announcement after his meeting with the cabinet sub-committee headed by minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil in the afternoon. Other committee members – Shivendrasinh Bhosale, Uday Samant, Manikrao Kokate – were also present at Azad Maidan as they discussed the final draft with him.
