A case was filed against Karnataka BJP MLA BP Harish based on the woman IPS officer’s complaint for allegedly making “insulting” remarks against her.

A BJP MLA was booked for allegedly likening a woman IPS officer in Davangere to a “pet dog”, the police said on Wednesday.
The BJP legislator was identified as BP Harish, who allegedly made “insulting” remarks against Superintendent of Police Uma Prashanth, whom he accused of not acknowledging him properly during official meetings.
He made the remarks during a press conference, prompting a complaint by the SP. A case was registered against the MLA under sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 79 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult a woman’s modesty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at KTJ Nagar police station, an official said.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Harish had said, “If you see the way the SP behaves — as a MLA if I go to a meeting, she does not acknowledge properly, but for those from the Shamanuru family (veteran Congress leader Shamanuru Shivashankarappa, his Minister son SS Mallikarjun and daughter-in-law and Congress MP Prabha Mallikarjun) she will wait for an hour near the gate, behaving like a Pomeranian dog at their house.”
The Shamanuru family is one of the most powerful political dynasties in Davanagere and in the state. Shamanuru Shivashankarappa is a senior Congress leader, a former minister, and one of the party’s oldest serving MLAs. His son, SS Mallikarjun, is the sitting minister for Mines, Geology, and Horticulture in the Siddaramaiah government.
