K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter K Kavitha on Tuesday was expelled from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) amid rumours of internal conflict within the party. The BRS MLC’s ouster came a day after she accused her cousins and BRS leaders — T Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar — of “amassing assets and having a tacit understanding” with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to tarnish the image of her father KCR.
The rift between Kavitha and the BRS came to light after the MLC hinted at “internal issues” within the party in a letter written to KCR in May this year. The letter got leaked when she was on a visit to the US. On her return, she alleged that some conspiracies were being hatched in the party and remarked that KCR is like a god but is surrounded by some devils.
BRS spokesperson Krishank Manne said that Kavitha has been violating the guidelines of the party. “You cannot criticise your own party in public. She has thrown baseless allegation our own party leaders,” he said.
Kavitha’s attacks on Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar followed the Congress government’s decision to order a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project, which was constructed during the BRS regime.
Addressing reporters, she said, “We (BRS cadre) have to think why the taint of corruption came to KCR. Some who are close to KCR have benefited in many ways by making use of his name. KCR’s name is getting defamed today because of their misdeeds. How can the party move ahead if the same persons are encouraged.” “Did Harish Rao, who was irrigation minister for five years, not have a major role in this? That’s why, KCR sidelined him (Harish Rao) in the second term (in power). Two, three persons are responsible for the taint on KCR in the whole episode of Kaleshwaram, While Harish Rao is one, former Rajya Sabha member (Santosh Kumar) is another,” she claimed, also naming an industrialist.
In the past, Kavitha had also said that she would work only under the leadership of her father, in what was seen as an attack on her brother KTR, who had apparently been leading the BRS after the party lost power in Telangana.
Earlier this month, Kavitha was also replaced by former minister Koppula Eashwar as the honorary president of the Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS). She had been heading TBGKS as honorary president for the last decade. Kavitha questioned the election of the honorary president of the Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham, a trade union of coal mine workers, when she is in the United States on a personal visit.
