INDIA bloc’s Vice-Presidential nominee and former Supreme Court Judge B Sudershan Reddy filed his nomination on Thursday in the presence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

Expressing their support to Reddy, NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar, Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav, DMK MP Tiruchi Siva, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut and several other leaders of the alliance were also present.

Reddy is confident of his victory and has expressed hope of receiving support across party lines. He believes that the election for the post of Vice President is a contest of ideology rather than numbers.

“Numbers matter continues…Of course, I am hopeful. Since I don’t belong to any political party, I believe everyone would support me…I made it very clear yesterday. It is the battle of ideology,” Reddy was quoted as saying.

The high-stakes Vice Presidential election are set to take place on September 9, with counting to take place the same day.

The last date for filing nominations is August 21, while candidates can withdraw their nominations until August 25.

Reddy will be contesting against National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate CP Radhakrishnan, who filed his nominations on Wednesday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The polls for the post of Vice President were necessitated after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on July 21, the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, citing health reasons.

How A Vice President Gets Elected?
