2025 has been a thrilling year for television and streaming audiences. From fan-favourite reality shows to binge-worthy dramas, viewers have had plenty to keep them hooked. With Squid Game returning for its final season and Landman making waves on Paramount+, long-running hits like NCIS and Love Island also continued to dominate screens.
But despite the buzz around these major titles, it was an Australian children’s show, Bluey, that stole the spotlight. Bluey, which racked up an incredible 25 billion minutes of viewing time, became the most-watched TV show in the world this year
Bluey Becomes the World’s Most-Watched TV Show
As per reports from global market research firm Nielsen, the most-watched TV show worldwide from January to June 2025 is the Australian cartoon show Bluey. While Squid Game, The White Lotus, and The Night Agent all were hot favourites and secured places in the top 20, Bluey managed to take the crown, sitting pretty at number 1. As per Nielsen, Bluey surpassed 25 billion minutes viewed in the first half of 2025, beating old favourite Grey’s Anatomy, which closely followed with 22.5 billion minutes.
“Minutes are used as a comparative metric because it’s the great equaliser across dissimilar programme categories and ultimately shows how consumers are spending their viewing time,” according to Nielsen.
Other Shows in Nielsen’s List
The list featured various prominent shows that continue to generate views based on reruns, for instance, Supernatural, The Big Bang Theory, and the classic FRIENDS, alongside new editions like The Rookie (15 billion minutes), Reacher (13 billion minutes), and The White Lotus (11 billion minutes). Bluey beats every single one of these shows to secure its place at the top. Additionally, Luminate’s Independent List for shows from 2025 featured names like Landman (14.4 billion minutes), Mobland (8 billion minutes), and Love Island (8 billion minutes), but none of these shows were able to break Bluey’s record.
What Is Bluey All About?
Created by Joe Brumm and backed by Ludo Studio from Queensland, Bluey was first aired on ABC Kids in 2018 and went worldwide the following year. The show follows Bluey, an anthropomorphic 6-year-old Blue Heeler puppy who is full of energy and imagination and is curious about the world. Through Bluey, the show delves into the themes of family life, growing up, and Australian culture. The show further gained popularity in the US after its international debut on Disney Junior and Disney+ in 2019. Aimed at pre-schoolers, Bluey has 154 episodes spread across 3 seasons.
