Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleging its direct involvement in what he called large-scale voter fraud aimed at benefiting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Gandhi claimed the Congress has “open-and-shut proof” of electoral manipulation and said the findings are explosive enough to shake the very foundation of India’s electoral system.
Speaking to reporters about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar, Gandhi accused the ECI of colluding with the BJP to steal votes. “Votes are being stolen. We have open-and-shut proof that the Election Commission is involved in this vote theft. And I’m not saying this lightly, I’m speaking with 100% proof,” he said. “When we release it, the entire country will come to know that the Election Commission is enabling vote theft. And who are they doing it for? They’re doing it for the BJP.”
He likened the party’s investigative findings to an “atom bomb.” “We had suspicion of voter theft, and we got into its granularity. Since the Election Commission was not helpful in the investigation, we did our own. It took six months and the things we found are an ‘Atom Bomb’. And when this atom bomb explodes, you won’t see the Election Commission in the country,” Gandhi said.
Taking a hardline position, Gandhi warned those within the Commission allegedly complicit in the exercise, stating that their actions amount to “treason.”
“Most importantly, whoever in the Election Commission is involved in this exercise, right from top to bottom, we will not spare you. You are working against India and this is no less than treason. Wherever you are, even if you are retired, we will find you,” he declared.
The remarks come amid continued tension in Parliament between the ruling BJP and the Opposition bloc. On Friday, Rahul Gandhi and senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at Parliament House, as the political standoff over House proceedings deepens.
