Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday said his party TDP will support NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan in the upcoming Vice Presidential elections, citing his party’s commitment to alliance ethics and long-standing political credibility.
Notably, the Opposition has fielded Telugu-origin ex-Supreme Court Judge Sudershan Reddy as its candidate for the Vice Presidential polls scheduled for September 9.
Ruling out support for Reddy, Naidu added that while the TDP has always stood for the Telugu community, the current context is about alliance commitments.

Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister questioned the opposition’s expectations, asking, “How can they (opposition) expect? We are in an alliance; how can it be expected that we will support another candidate? Telugu Desam Party is for Telugu community. That is a different issue.”
Clearing his stance in favour of NDA, Naidu further said if compared in terms of candidature, CP Radhakrishnan is the “best candidate” for the post.
“We are in alliance. Our party is having ethics, credibility. We have built this credibility over a period of five decades. You know my stand from the beginning, not now. If anybody compares candidature-wise, he (CP Radhakrishnan), who is also the governor of Maharashtra, is the best candidate everybody has to support,” he added.
The TDP leader slammed the opposition’s move to introduce a separate candidate for elections. He stated with confidence that Radhakrishnan will win the polls with majority.
“If the majority is there, it is a very dignified post. Why did they (opposition) bring another candidate now? Is it necessary? That is their politics. But we are not playing politics here. We are having majority, we are going to win comfortably,” he further said.
Radhakrishnan filed his nomination in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday while Reddy filed his nomination papers on Thursday.
The Vice President’s post fell vacant on July 21, the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned, citing health issues.
