Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao has declared that his party’s support in the upcoming Vice Presidential election will go only to the party that guarantees 2 lakh metric tons of urea for the farmers of Telangana.
Highlighting the ongoing agricultural crisis, KTR said, “We have not yet decided whom to vote for. But I assure you, BRS will support only the party that guarantees adequate urea supply to Telangana farmers. Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi — be ready. We have time till November 9.”
Speaking at a press conference at his Nandi Nagar residence, KTR reaffirmed BRS’s independent position, stressing that the party is neither with the NDA nor with the INDIA bloc.
“We fought elections independently in 2014 and 2018, and we will continue to take decisions on our own terms. Both BJP and Congress have done nothing meaningful for Telangana. If the INDIA bloc candidate is proposed by the Telangana CM, supporting him is out of the question,” he said.
KTR added that all decisions will be taken collectively after thorough discussions within the party.
On CM Revanth Reddy’s reported wish to meet him for seeking BRS’s support, KTR hit back and said “Revanth Reddy should first meet the farmers of Telangana and resolve their problems, instead of seeking our support.”
Taking a swipe at the Congress, he accused them of disrespecting former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. “What did Congress do to PV Narasimha Rao after his death? They didn’t even allow his body into the AICC office. Now, our CM speaking about Telugu pride,” KTR said.
On electoral reforms and SIR, he reiterated BRS’s demand for a return to paper ballots in place of EVMs, starting from Bihar.
Turning to the issue of BC reservations, KTR accused the Congress of misleading people.
“Unless reservations are placed in the Ninth Schedule, they will not materialize. Earlier surveys showed 52 per cent BC population, now they claim 46 per cent. What happened to the Rs 20,000 crore annual promise for BCs? What about the MBC Ministry, and Rs 500 crore for each corporation? All remain unfulfilled,” he added.
Reacting on the Marwari Go Back controversy, KTR made it clear that BRS stands for inclusivity, “People who are living in Telangana are our brothers. We even supported migrant workers during the Corona crisis. It is wrong to disrespect them. But at the same time, Telangana people deserve their due respect.”
