The EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) has turned deadstock from a margin problem into a documented compliance risk. The ban and derogations apply to large companies from July **, ****; medium-sized companies are expected to follow in ****. A standardised disclosure format starts from February ****, requiring companies to report discarded unsold products by category, units, weight, reason for discard and treatment route.
That makes July **** the visible deadline, but the buying season already underway is the real test. Autumn/winter orders, return flows and warehousing contracts must now be planned around reuse before destruction.
