Maharashtra Minister Alleges Name Missing From Voter List

Ganesh Naik on Thursday, while talking to the media, informed that he was unable to vote in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) elections as his name was not included in the voters’ list.

“I have been voting for many years at Navi Mumbai School No. 94 along with my family members, but this time I was told that voting would take place at St Mary’s High School. When I went there, there was no room number 9 as informed, and my name was not on the voters’ list, so I could not cast my vote,” Naik said while talking to the reporters.

The minister said that he will again go back to St Mary’s High School.

Naik further informed that family members and relatives live in the same building in Navi Mumbai, however, their names were divided in three different polling centres.

Raising questions, the Maharashtra minister asked who should be held responsible for the lapse. Naik further claimed that it is the State Election Commission who is at fault.

“It is anyone’s guess that if a minister like me can face a situation where his name is missing from the voters’ list, then one can imagine what might be happening to common voters,” he stated.

Meanwhile, voting is currently underway for elections to 29 municipal corporations in the state, including Navi Mumbai, as the city is set to elect its Mayor after nine years.

Voters will decide the fate of representatives across 227 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) wards. The results are expected to be announced tomorrow, on January 16.
