A day after meeting the Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in Mysuru amid buzz over the Chief Ministerial post in Karnataka, the state’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar shared a cryptic post on Wednesday.

In the post on X, Shivakumar said, “Even if the effort fails, the prayer does not fail.” Shivakumar, who has been eyeing the CM post, has never held back in openly expressing his ambitions. At the same time, CM Siddaramaiah has asserted that the decision rests with the Congress high command.

Rahul Gandhi meets Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar

On Tuesday, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi held separate meetings with DK Shivakumar and CM Siddaramaiah on the tarmac at Mysuru Airport. The brief talk between the leaders took place on the tarmac, as Gandhi was headed to New Delhi from Tamil Nadu, according to party sources.

Although it remains unclear what transpired among the three, speculations are rife amid the buzz over the CM post in Karnataka.

Rotational Chief Minister formula?

There was a fierce competition between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar for the Chief Minister’s post back in 2023 when the Congress party emerged victorious in the state assembly polls. According to some media reports, the party’s high command picked Siddaramaiah as the CM due to his clean image and widespread support across the state.

DK Shivakumar, on the other hand, was under investigation in connection with money laundering. Media reports also claim that the Congress high command established a “rotational Chief Minister formula”, according to which Shivakumar will assume the CM post after two-and-a-half years.

However, the formula has never been officially confirmed by the party.
