Humayun Kabir was suspended from the TMC after he sparked a major controversy with remarks about building a mosque in Murshidabad.
Humayun Kabir launched a blistering attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the party’s leadership.
Hours after being suspended by the Trinamool Congress (TMC), MLA Humayun Kabir launched a blistering attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the party’s leadership, saying that Banerjee is doing RSS work and will be branded as an ex-Chief Minister after the 2026 assembly elections.
The Bharatpur (West Bengal) MLA, who had sparked a major controversy with remarks about building a mosque modelled on the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad, further questioned why he had been retained for more than a decade if the organisation had issues with him.
“When she first came to power, she got 182 seats. I needed her. I was included in the party… Why was this done to me for 12–13 years? Why was I inducted into the party?” Kabir said as quoted by news agency ANI.

He further accused Mamata Banerjee of doing appeasement politics, saying that she builds temples by taking funds from people but gives mere allowance to Muslim clerics.
“Today, the CM builds Jagannath Temple by taking funds from people, they give funds for Durga Puja. Muslim clerics are given allowance of Rs 3000; clubbing all allowances Rs 54,000 is being given. While Rs 1,10,000 is given to committees every year. She is doing RSS work,” he added.
Kabir asserted that Mamata Banerjee won’t become Chief Minister after the 2026 assembly elections. “The Chief Minister should be an ex-Chief Minister. In 2026, the Chief Minister will not become the Chief Minister, will not be sworn in, and will be branded as an ex-Chief Minister,” he declared.
Kabir also vowed to form a new party, saying that he will field candidates on 135 Assembly seats in the upcoming polls.
“I will announce a new party on December 22 and will field candidates on 135 Assembly seats (in West Bengal polls). I will fight against both the BJP and them (TMC). They can do whatever they want,” he said as quoted by news agency PTI.

Why Humayun Kabir Was Suspended?
His comments came hours after he was suspended from the party after he sparked a major controversy with remarks about building a mosque modelled on the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad.
The move came just two days ahead of the MLA’s “foundation stone-laying ceremony” for the proposed structure. Kabir had earlier told news agency IANS that a mosque project, promised in December last year, would take three years to complete and could draw “around two lakh people” during the foundation ceremony, with “400 prominent personalities” on stage.
Explaining the rationale behind the move, senior party minister Firhad Hakim said the TMC stands for secular politics and Kabir’s move was not in line with the party’s position. “If the programme takes place, the law will take its own course. Mamata Banerjee is a tough leader. We are a secular party; we do not believe in such activities. Anyone can build a temple or a mosque, but why in the name of Babar? This is nothing but a BJP plan,” he said.
Pre-Planned Game: BJP
Meanwhile, the BJP claimed that the suspension decision is a pre-planned game between the TMC and Humayun Kabir ahead of the 2026 polls.
Union Minister and BJP Leader Sukanta Majumdar said , “They are playing dirty politics in an attempt to please Hindu voters. They also built the Jagannath Cultural Centre in the temple’s name to please Hindus. Last time, Mamata Banerjee did not receive Hindu votes. It is a pre-planned game between the TMC and Humayun Kabir. After the election, he will be taken back into the party.”
This is not the first time Kabir has invited controversy. Last year, he drew criticism for remarking about “throwing out 30 per cent Hindus,” leading to multiple show-cause notices from the TMC—warnings he allegedly ignored.
