In a sweeping mandate that has redrawn Bihar’s political landscape, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar have led the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to a commanding victory in the 2025 Assembly elections. With the final tally giving the NDA 202 of 243 seats, the opposition Mahagathbandhan has been reduced to just 35 seats, signalling one of its weakest performances in recent years.

Among the high-profile casualties of this wave is Tej Pratap Yadav, the eldest and estranged son of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, who lost his seat amid the surging support for the ruling alliance.

In the Mahua Assembly seat, Sanjay Kumar Singh of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) emerged victorious with 87,641 votes. The incumbent MLA and RJD candidate, Mukesh Kumar Raushan, garnered 42,644 votes, placing second.

Tej Pratap Yadav, who founded the Janshakti Janata Dal after he was expelled from the RJD by his father over an alleged relationship with a woman, secured 35,703 votes and came in third.

According to some political experts, Tej Pratap’s entry into the electoral race is believed to have split the votes, contributing to the RJD candidate’s defeat.

Social Media Mocks Tej Pratap With Old Flute Video

Tej Pratap Yadav’s loss has sparked extensive discussion on social media, with users posting various comments. An old video of Tej Pratap Yadav has been shared by the X page @Lotus_indrajit.

In the clip, Tej Pratap is seen seated in the party office, playing the flute as party workers sit before him, listening attentively. He plays the tune of ‘Aami Je Tomar…‘ from the popular horror film Bhool Bhulaiyaa.

The caption posted with the video reads: “Instead of being saddened by his defeat in Mahua, Tej Pratap Yadav comforted his party workers with his melodious flute. A person with a heart as kind as his is born only once in thousands of years.”

The comments on the post are even more dramatic. User @MemeDialogues wrote: “Blessed is this divine soul. A family accused in the fodder scam is fortunate to have such a child. Truly, he is the Prahlad of Bihar.”

Another user, @SompalS00268757, commented, “Amazing! How did an experienced leader like Lalu Prasad Yadav fail to recognise this rare gem? How could he make such a mistake? Or perhaps I’m the one who doesn’t understand that politics is so layered that only extraordinary minds can grasp it. @narendramodi, please take him under your guidance.”

What Did Tej Pratap Yadav Say After His Defeat?

Following his defeat, Tej Pratap Yadav expressed that he was not very upset about his personal loss but was pleased with the RJD’s overall defeat.

Tej Pratap said Bihar has delivered a clear message that politics will no longer revolve around nepotism, but around good governance and education. “This is a crushing defeat for the Jaichands,” he said.

“We had already said that Congress would be wiped out from Bihar, and today it has been proven. I have won even in defeat. These Jaichands hollowed out the RJD from within and destroyed it, which is why Tejashwi has failed today. History will never forgive those who set their own house on fire just to save their chair and their politics,” he said.

Tej Pratap Yadav even credited the NDA and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the alliance’s sweeping victory. He said the biggest factor behind the result was the “unbreakable unity” of the NDA, whose five partners, the “five Pandavas”, contested the election as one.

“The people of Bihar strengthened this unity with their faith, their votes, and their wholehearted support, turning it into the power of victory,” he said.

He added that the mandate reflects the people’s trust and their commitment to development and good governance. According to him, this historic win is the outcome of the strategy, vision, and relentless efforts of Amit Shah and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the BJP’s Bihar in-charge.
