Amid the Bihar Assembly elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has found himself at the centre of a political storm. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday ridiculed him for taking a jungle safari in Madhya Pradesh’s Pachmarhi, accusing him of being indifferent to electoral realities.
BJP calls Gandhi ‘Leader of Partying’
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla took a sharp dig at the Congress leader, saying, “For Rahul Gandhi, LoP stands for Leader of Partying and Paryatan (tourism). While Bihar goes to polls, he goes on vacation. When they lose, they’ll blame the Election Commission and release a PowerPoint on H Files (holiday files).”
In another post, Poonawalla quoted a Hindi couplet, “Ta umr Congress yeh galti karti rahi, dhool chehre pe thi, Congress aaina saaf karti rahi”, implying that the Congress continues to ignore its own flaws despite repeated electoral defeats.
Rahul Gandhi on Madhya Pradesh visit
Rahul Gandhi arrived in Pachmarhi, a picturesque hill station in Narmadapuram district, on Saturday to attend a training camp for Madhya Pradesh Congress district presidents. Early on Sunday morning, he went on a jungle safari, leaving Ravishankar Bhavan around 6.15 a.m. and travelling to the Panarpani Gate before returning.
According to Congress sources, Gandhi is expected to fly to Bihar later in the day to address an election rally in Kishanganj, a traditional Congress stronghold.
Rahul Gandhi accuses EC and BJP of ‘vote theft’
During his Madhya Pradesh visit, Gandhi renewed his allegations against the Election Commission (EC), claiming that it was working at the behest of the BJP to manipulate voter rolls. He accused the EC and BJP of being part of a “joint partnership” involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
“My issue is that democracy is being attacked and Ambedkar’s Constitution is under threat,” Gandhi said. “This system of ‘vote theft’ has happened in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.”
While the BJP ridiculed Gandhi’s “holiday politics”, the Congress maintained that his visit was part of party organisational work and not a leisure trip.
