Bihar Polls 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Congress-RJD alliance, accusing them of disrespecting the Hindu faith by calling Chhath celebrations “drama.”

While addressing a poll-bound rally in Katihar, PM Modi took a jibe at RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav after videos of him celebrating Halloween went viral on social media, and said, “The RJD ‘shahi parivar’ celebrates all international festivals, but when it comes to Chhath, they call it a drama.”

The Prime Minister further slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for calling the BJP’s Chhath Puja celebrations a gimmick, and accused the party of systematically insulting the people of the state and using derogatory remarks as part of its political strategy.

“RJD and Congress members call the worship of Chhathi Maiya a gimmick, a drama. These people have no idea about the power of Surya Dev. The Congress leader insulted Chhath Maiya, and the people of Bihar took out their anger on the RJD and made them lose. You have punished them once, and you will do it again,” he said.

He also alleged that the Congress leadership had instructed its state units to belittle Biharis in order to create divisions.

“A Congress leader in Kerala even compared Bihar to a beedi,” he said. “This is also part of the Congress’s strategy to harass Biharis. Congress invited DMK leaders, who abuse Biharis, to campaign in the Bihar elections so that the RJD would face your anger,” he added.

He called on the large crowd to avenge this alleged insult at the polls, questioning if they would forgive those who dishonour the sacred festival of Chhath.

PM Modi also traded guns at the opposition’s alliance, saying that the Congress-RJD combine was “compromising national security for the sake of votes.”

“Efforts are on to change the demography of Seemanchal through infiltration. RJD and Congress are putting the nation’s security at risk just for their vote bank,” he said.

In a pointed reference to RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and his father Lalu Prasad Yadav, PM Modi said, “Look at the RJD-Congress posters — the one who was Bihar’s Chief Minister for years has had his photo pushed into a corner.” Taking a jibe at Tejashwi, he asked, “Why are you scared of taking your father’s name during the campaign? Why this hide and seek about his rule?”

PM Modi further mocked the uneasy ties between the two allies of the Mahagathbandhan, claiming that the RJD has sidelined the Congress both symbolically and politically.

“You may have noticed one more thing — in their (Mahagathbandhan) posters, Congress is almost missing. The RJD showed Congress a katta (gun) and even got its own Chief Ministerial candidate declared. And now, Congress is being shown its haisiyaat (status),” he said.

Taking a jibe at the Congress leadership, PM Modi said, “The namdaar of Congress was making big claims in Bihar just a few weeks ago, but the RJD has made both their pictures and their claims look dwarf — in the posters as well as in the announcements.”

He also accused the alliance of appeasement politics, claiming they have consistently opposed reforms that empower women and promote equality. “Congress and RJD opposed the law against triple talaq, and now they are talking about scrapping the Waqf Amendment Act as they work for extremists,” he said.

Appealing to the voters, PM Modi said their single vote had transformed Bihar once before and could do so again. “You must remember that your one vote brought Bihar from jungle raj to su-shasan raj. Now, your one vote will make Bihar developed,” he asserted.
