Actor-politician Thalapathy Vijay on Monday met the families of those who lost their lives in the Karur stampede and assured them of his full support.
“I can never compensate for your loss, but I will take care of your families,” Vijay told the grieving relatives, promising to bear all medical and educational expenses of the victims’ families. He also pledged to arrange employment opportunities for those affected by the tragedy.
Even as Vijay extended his support, DMK leader Amutharasan sparked controversy by sharing an image showing Vijay driving a hearse. In his tweet, the leader mocked that since TVK is seeking an election symbol, the “Amarar Oorthi” (hearse) would be the right choice.

Several TVK leaders were present at the venue as Vijay met each family personally, offering condolences and assuring support.
The Karur stampede, which occurred on September 27 at Velusamypuram along the Karur–Erode Highway, claimed 41 lives and left several others injured when a massive crowd gathered for a political rally. Among the victims were 18 women, 15 men, five young girls, and five boys.
Thirty-four of the deceased were from Karur district, two each from Erode, Tiruppur, and Dindigul, and one from Salem.
The Supreme Court of India has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the tragedy, with the investigation currently underway.
