The BJP has said it will finalise seat-sharing arrangements within the NDA for the upcoming Bihar elections in the next couple of days, sources told News18.

This comes a day after there was widespread speculation that “all is not well” on the seat-sharing front in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

According to top sources in the BJP, seat-sharing talks will be finalised in the next couple of days. The BJP’s central election committee (CEC) is meeting on October 12.

The sources told News18 a first of list of candidates is likely to be released on October 13, and this is expected to be a joint NDA list that will include allies and not just BJP nominees.

Besides, the sources said, a series of key meetings, including the BJP core group, will be held on October 11. All alliance partners are expected to be on board with the final arrangement, they said.

They said state-level talks are complete and the BJP has prepared a panel of three names per seat, which will be discussed during the meeting on Saturday (October 11). These names will then be placed before the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led parliamentary board, they said. The Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) has authorised the BJP to lead the coordination with other NDA allies, they added.

On Wednesday (October 8), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi made a cryptic post on X amid the seat-sharing talks in the NDA. He seemingly expressed his disappointment with NDA seat-sharing talks.

“Ho nyaay agar to aadha do, yadi usme bhi koi baadha ho, to de do kewal 15 gram, rakho apni dharti tamaam, HAM wahi khushi se khayenge, parijan pe asi na uthayenge,” Manjhi’s wrote.

But Manjhi later clarified that there is no dispute and his party is demanding enough seats to be recognised in the Bihar assembly.

The BJP, however, was forced to respond to this and clear the air on possible rifts over seat-sharing in the NDA. Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal spoke to reporters after a meeting of the BJP election committee. He said the party discussed the seats it had lost in the last election.

“…All is well. Everything is proceeding very smoothly, and everything will be completed on time,” he told reporters after the meeting.

The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the Bihar polls. The 243-seat assembly will go to polls in two phases on November 6 and 11, with the counting of votes scheduled to take place on November 14.
