Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan has written to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, urging a fair and transparent investigation into the alleged suicide of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, whose death has sparked widespread concern and political reactions.

In his letter, Paswan stressed the need for swift and impartial action in the matter, calling it a “sensitive issue that demands immediate attention.” He said, “Prompt action is necessary in such a sensitive matter,” adding that a credible probe is essential to ensure justice and restore public trust.

Speaking to reporters, Paswan revealed that he has also raised the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.  He also mentioned that he has spoken to the wife of the late Puran Kumar.

“I spoke with the Haryana CM and the wife of the late Puran Kumar, and I tried to understand her pain. I conveyed that emotion to Haryana CM and HM Amit Shah. It will be ensured that strict action is taken against the guilty,” he said.

The death of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who was reportedly facing professional and social pressure, has triggered strong reactions from various political leaders.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has linked the incident to broader issues of caste discrimination and institutional bias — a claim the ruling BJP has strongly refuted.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi, in a post on X, had said, “The suicide of Haryana’s IPS officer Y Puran Kumar ji is a symbol of that deepening social poison which is crushing humanity in the name of caste. When an IPS officer has to endure humiliation and oppression because of his caste, then imagine in what conditions an ordinary Dalit citizen must be living.”
