With just a few days left for the high-stakes Assembly polls in Bihar, the grand Mahagathbandhan alliance on Thursday declared RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as the chief ministerial face.
The decision of the Opposition alliance was made official after Congress veteran Ashok Gehlot named Tejashwi as the chief ministerial pick against the NDA at a joint press conference of the Mahagathbandhan allies in Patna.
Announcing the decision, Gehlot said the Mahagathbandhan had chosen Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial face because he is “young” and “committed”.
The former Rajasthan Chief Minister then threw a dare to the BJP and said, “I want to ask Amit Shah… Our leader is Tejashwi Yadav. Now they should confirm who is their (NDA) chief minister face.”
Gehlot also announced that Mukesh Sahani, the chief of Vikassheel Insaan Party, is the alliance’s Deputy Chief Minister candidate, but added that more deputies could be announced later.
The announcement came after several speculations of a rift within the Opposition bloc over seat-sharing were doing the rounds in the political circle.
The seat-sharing negotiations between the RJD and Congress suffered a roadblock when both parties insisted on contesting certain seats, while the Congress demanded for more seats to contest the polls.

While the NDA includes the Bharatiya Janata Party, Janata Dal (United), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
