The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday tore into Rahul Gandhi for “surrendering Indian interests to pressure of foreign powers” after the Congress leader alleged on X that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was “frightened of Donald Trump”.

BJP’s national spokesperson CR Kesavan took to X to say that for “Rahul Gandhi and the Congress Party, India’s national interest has never been and will never be a priority nor concern”.

The BJP’s rebuke came as Gandhi accused PM Modi of being intimidated by the US President after Trump’s claim on Russian oil purchases as well as his claims of mediating between India and Pakistan during the four-day military confrontation.

Months after the United States imposed one of the highest tariffs on India to punish it for buying oil from Moscow, Trump claimed that PM Modi had assured him that New Delhi would stop purchasing from Russia.

“PM Modi is frightened of Trump. 1. Allows Trump to decide and announce that India will not buy Russian oil. 2. Keeps sending congratulatory messages despite repeated snubs. 3. Canceled the Finance Minister’s visit to America. 4. Skipped Sharm el-Sheikh. 5. Doesn’t contradict him on Operation Sindoor,” Gandhi said in a post on X.

Reminding the Congress and Gandhis of their “sordid track record of meekly surrendering Indian interests to pressure of foreign powers”, Kesavan cited the example of a “senior Congress leader in the context of 2008 Mumbai terror attacks”.

Former minister P Chidamabaram had recently admitted that the then UPA government decided to not retaliate against Pakistan after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks due to international pressure, especially from the United States.

“It was the Congress led UPA Government in 2009 which dishonourably compromised India’s national interest in Sharm el-Sheikh peddling Pakistan’s propaganda on Balochistan,” Kesavan added.

He said “despite categorical press statements by the MEA that United States was told that there was no mention at any stage on subjects like India-US trade deal or mediation, the Congress fake factory is indulging in outright lying”.

Kesavan alleged that Gandhi “neither respects nor trusts India”, whether it is the armed forces or the Ministry of External Affairs. “The nation was witness to how Congress party and Rahul Gandhi doubted the integrity of our Armed Forces briefing on #Operation Sindoor and defamed their valour and sacrifice. The people and country knows that for @narendramodi ji, Bharat’s welfare and interest are paramount unlike the Congress party whose only parochial agenda is to perpetrate the vested selfish interests of the Congress first family.”
