Actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar is stepping behind the camera for the first time with her upcoming film Saraswathi. In addition to directing, she will also produce the project alongside her sister Pooja Sarathkumar under their new banner, Dosa Diaries. The announcement was shared by Varalaxmi on her social media accounts.

Star-studded cast and crew

The film will feature a strong ensemble cast, including Prakash Raj, Priyamani, and Naveen Chandra. Thaman has been signed on to compose the music. The technical team comprises A.M. Edwin Sakay for cinematography, Venkat Raajen as editor, and Sudheer Macharla handling art direction.

Varalaxmi expressed her excitement about the project, writing, “I’m so excited to be starting my journey as a director. To be producing alongside my sister Pooja is a bigger bonus. Thank you to my actors and technicians for having faith in me. I will do my very best not to let you down. Need all your blessings.”

The production house Dosa Diaries marks a new beginning for Varalaxmi and her sister. Sharing the news, the actress wrote, “Dosa Diaries – Chapter 1: We are delighted to announce that actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and her sister Pooja Sarathkumar are joining hands as producers to launch their maiden production company. This film features a power-packed ensemble of artists and technicians and marks the beginning of an exciting new journey for us in the world of cinema.”

Varalaxmi’s Upcoming International Project

Alongside her directorial debut, Varalaxmi is also set to appear in a Hollywood film titled Rizana: A Caged Bird, directed by Chandran Rutnam. Shot in Sri Lanka, the film is inspired by a true story. She will share screen space with Academy Award-winning actor Jeremy Irons, who has also won a Tony, three Primetime Emmys, and two Golden Globes.
