Amid ongoing seat-sharing talks in Bihar, the Congress on Wednesday called for a balanced approach among Mahagathbandhan allies, stressing that all parties should share both “good” and “bad” constituencies to ensure fairness.

The party also said that existing allies must contribute from their “kitty” to accommodate any new entrants into the alliance.

The remarks come as discussions are underway to include the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP) in the Grand Alliance ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.

Speaking at a press conference in Patna, Congress leader and AICC in-charge for Bihar, Krishna Allavaru, said, “All parties will have to give up some seats. There are winnable and non-winnable seats. One should not get only seats that cannot be won. One should also get all winning seats also. There has to be a mix.”

“In every state there are good seats and bad seats (in terms of winnability) and we believe that one party should not get all the good seats and the other gets the bad ones. In the sharing of seats, there should be a balance between good and bad seats,” he noted.

The Congress leader also said the party is working to finalise seat-sharing arrangements soon, adding, “Our endeavour is to take the seat sharing forward positively in good time and we are successfully doing that.”

Alongside seat talks, Allavaru took aim at the BJP, accusing it of “vote chori” (vote theft) in collusion with the Election Commission. He alleged that changes made to the selection process of the Election Commissioner and tampering with electoral rolls are part of a wider plan to undermine free elections.

Citing the Varanasi Lok Sabha result, he said, “Our candidate was winning for several rounds, but when the live updates were stopped, Narendra Modi was declared the winner at the last moment.”

He further stated that “vote chori” lies at the heart of many problems in the country, from unemployment to poor governance. “If the situation in Bihar is to change, the government must be changed,” he said.

Referring to a meeting with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, Allavaru said the party’s strategy for campaigning, manifesto, and seat selection was discussed in detail.

The Congress is part of the INDIA bloc in Bihar, alongside the RJD and other regional parties.
