IndiGo flights to cost more as airline raises fuel charges from October 6

IndiGo has announced another revision in fuel charges for domestic and international flights as a sustained rise in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices pushes up airline operating costs.

The revised charges will apply to all new bookings made from 0001 hours on October 6, 2026, the airline said in a statement on Monday, October 5.

IndiGo said ATF prices have remained volatile in recent months, with the latest month-on-month increase exceeding 14%, taking costs to levels among the highest in the last decade.

ATF prices for domestic airlines rose by ₹16 per litre, or about 13.2%, from October 1, taking the rate to ₹137 per litre from ₹121. This was the third consecutive monthly increase, following hikes in August and September.

The revised charges are higher across all domestic distance slabs compared with the rates IndiGo introduced in April.

International fuel charges

IndiGo has also revised the fuel charge for international routes.

SAARC — up to 500 km ₹ 1,000
SAARC — 501 km and above ₹ 3,000
Southeast Asia ₹ 5,500
GCC & West Asia ₹ 5,500
North & East Asia ₹ 5,500
Africa ₹ 6,000
Europe ₹ 10,000

IndiGo said fully offsetting the increase in fuel costs would have required a “significantly larger increase” in fuel charges, but it has opted for what it described as a measured and relatively modest adjustment to limit the impact on passengers.

When did IndiGo last raise fuel charges?

IndiGo’s most recent previous revision was in April 2026, when it replaced the flat domestic fuel charge introduced in March with a distance-based structure of ₹275 to ₹950. International charges were also sharply revised at the time, with the maximum charge reaching ₹10,000 for the UK and Europe.

That followed the airline’s March 2026 introduction of a fuel charge, when it initially levied ₹425 on domestic flights and charges ranging from ₹900 to ₹2,300 on international routes. The latest increase comes as ATF has risen for three consecutive months, with the October increase following hikes in August and September.

ATF can account for up to around 40% of airline operating costs, making fuel prices a key determinant of airline costs and fares.
