A person from Telangana is stepping in to help such workers and their families. Assuring those in trouble that he is there for them, he plays a key role in sending the mortal remains of deceased workers back to their native villages. He is Narender, who has emerged as a source of support for workers in distress.
Gadchanda Narender spoke from Abu Dhabi over a WhatsApp call with News18 representative and spoke about the services he provides. His native place is Venkatapur village in Nirmal district. He is 36 years old and moved to Abu Dhabi 12 years ago to support his family.
Narender works as a supervisor at Smile Online Supermarket in Abu Dhabi and earns a monthly salary of ₹60,000. While fulfilling his job responsibilities, he also stands by fellow Telugu people as well as workers from other states in India. If he learns that an Indian worker in the Gulf is in trouble, he responds immediately and offers help and support.
Usually, if a worker dies while working for a company in the UAE, the management takes responsibility for sending the deceased’s body back home. However, if a worker remains absent from duty for a week without informing the company, the company may file a missing-person case. If the worker later dies accidentally, the company may not take responsibility.
Narender takes the initiative in such complicated cases. He provides the necessary assistance to send the deceased’s mortal remains back to India, helps resolve the associated problems and stands by the affected families.
Sending such unclaimed or abandoned mortal remains back to India is not an easy task. Even so, Narender completes the necessary paperwork in accordance with local laws and works to ensure that the deceased reaches their home country within three to seven days.
After the mortal remains reach Hyderabad Airport by flight, he arranges an ambulance and personally monitors the arrangements to ensure they reach the victim’s home. He coordinates with the embassy in the UAE and the governments in the Telugu states to help ensure the deceased is taken home.
According to the information provided, Narender has helped send as many as 150 bodies back to their hometowns so far.
Narender is also a key member of an organisation called the Gulf Workers Awareness Center (GWAC), which was founded by Krishna Donikeni. The organisation provides services in countries including the UAE, Qatar, Oman (Muscat), Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
Narender serves as the UAE President of GWAC. The organisation has around 10,000 members. By helping one another, its members work to support Non-Resident Indians whenever they face difficulties in the Gulf countries.
