Amazon-AEPC’s $80 bn goal rewires India’s apparel exports

For garment MSMEs, however, the larger opportunity lies in Amazon’s cross-border export ecosystem rather than its domestic logistics network.

India’s textile and apparel exports rose *.** per cent to $**.* billion in the year ended March ****, according to the Ministry of Commerce data. Apparel exports alone reached $**.** billion, up **.** per cent. Yet cross-border e-commerce contributes only about $* billion, representing less than *.* per cent of India’s total merchandise exports. China’s equivalent market is estimated at around $*** billion. Amazon’s $** billion export ambition therefore reflects the significant headroom available rather than a mature or saturated market.
