Australian apparel imports fall while textiles gain in July-May



Apparel imports (HS code **) eased *.** per cent to Au$**.*** billion (~$*.*** billion), compared with Au$**.*** billion a year earlier. The imports dipped **.** per cent year on year to Au$*.*** billion (~$*.*** billion) in May **** from Au$*.*** billion in May ****.

Imports of textile yarn, fabrics, and made-up articles (code **) was slightly higher at Au$*.*** billion (~$*.*** billion) from Au$*.*** billion in the same period, last year. The May shipments under this category decreased **.** per cent to Au$*** million (~$***.** million), from Au$*** million in May ****.

Fibre imports (code **) also rose, reaching Au$*** million (~$**.** million) from Au$*** million in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. Monthly imports stood at Au$** million in May ****, against Au$** million in the same period a year earlier.

Textile fibre exports (code **) edged up *.** per cent to Au$*.*** billion (~$*.*** billion) between July **** and May ****, compared with Au$*.*** billion in the same period of the last year. Exports have seen impressive growth of **.** per cent to reach Au$*** million (~$***.** million) in May **** against the shipment of Au$*** million a year earlier.
